Finance Manager

The Courseload Finance Manager is responsible for the organization’s financial management activities. This position interfaces with our functional areas -- Sales, Marketing, Academic Services, Product Development, Content Services and Human Resources -- to assist them in meeting their financial objectives and recommend strategies to improve operations and financial reporting. The Finance Manager reports to both our CEO and our CFO advisor.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as business partner to the CEO for planning, forecasting, and reporting; also assisting with expense management and meeting Board and investor requirements.
  • Performing or supervising all accounting functions: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Month End Close, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, Compliance Reporting and Payroll.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements and analysis for management team and the Board.
  • Maintaining financial models to project revenues, expenses and cash flows.
  • Supporting the SVP of Sales with revenue projections, sales pipeline reporting, CRM, price modeling/negotiations, sales compensation and budgeting.
  • Collaborating with Courseload's Content Team to support the needs of content providers, including creating and submitting monthly usage reports, managing effective communications, and ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and payment.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources to manage the company's equity program, administer new hires and terminations, ensure benefits enrollments and payments are processed, and to create internal policies that support the culture and operations of Courseload.
  • Managing our internal expense program including handling expense reports and educating employees on expense processes.
  • Performing other finance-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • B.S., B.A. degree desired in Finance, Accounting or related field (CPA preferred) At least 5 years of working experience in a similar position
  • Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of MS Office suite Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • High attention to detail with ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Flexible and able to effectively manage changing deadline pressures
  • Strong writing, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to visualize, articulate and solve complex problems
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion
  • Understanding of – and enthusiasm for – technology
  • Demonstrates high initiative, “can-do” attitude and confidence to work with minimal direction
  • Excited to change the world of education through our transformative technology platform and innovative business model
  • Experience in educational technology, publishing industry or early stage company is a plus Experience with NetSuite and other accounting systems

Who we are
We’re a growing team of developers, engineers, and UX gurus looking for a Javascript Developer to help build our front-end applications to the next level. We iterate quickly, release often, and have a strong devops mentality. Our modern stack is HTML CSS Javascript using various frameworks for the front-end, Python/Django back-end with multiple data tier technologies including Postgresql, MongoDB, Solr and others.
